What this goal demands

1:50 is a classic goal for regular runners: about 5:13 per kilometer. This 12-week plan comes preset for it, with the same settings as the half marathon plan.

To run a half marathon in 1:50, you need to hold 5:13 /km. According to the VDOT model, that corresponds to a VDOT score of 40.4, or a vVO2max of about 13.2 km/h. With that vVO2max, your training paces would be:

Base endurance
6:05 – 7:01 /km
Threshold
5:04 – 5:22 /km
vVO2max intervals
4:21 – 4:48 /km

Estimate based on Daniels’ model: it assumes proper preparation and a flat course.

Why this structure

W1–4

Base

Build endurance at an easy pace. Hill repeats and fartlek keep your stride snappy.

W5–8

Build

vVO2max intervals and threshold sessions at 85 to 90% of vVO2max, to help you hold the pace for longer.

W9–10

Specific

Short intervals maintained; half marathon pace is practiced at the end of the long run.

W11–12

Taper

Reduced volume, intensity maintained, fresh legs on race day.

About 80% of the volume is run at an easy pace, 20% at a harder effort. Recovery weeks cut the load so your body can absorb it. Understand training load.
